Work Work Work

Last Weds we started the research for our final garment for Interdisciplinary processes, we started by doing a task which i think helped us really get into the project instead of just getting the brief then wandering into town or going home and not really doing anything. The task was to create a garment out of paper by 1 o clock, i enjoyed doing this, it was a useful way to begin inspiration and it gave us a good starting point. I found this a lot more useful than if we would have just been given the brief.

Thursday was continuing the research and having a discussion with a tutor about pathways in the second year, I was wanting to do the innovation pathway and thats what came out with my results as i am more geared towards a broad range of things related to fashion instead of focusing just on design. I'm quite enjoying this module, even though we seem to be in loads i find the lessons useful and its preparing us for the second year.

Monday we learnt about Moulage, which is pattern cutting using the stand, it is useful for more complicated tops and dresses that would be very difficult to do a flat pattern for. The seams have to be done as if inside out and all the lines and pleats etc need to be drawn on before being taken off the stand, it seemed complicated at first but i think ive got the hang of it, i'll have a better idea next week when we make up patterns and a garment from it.

Tuesday once again was helping our third years, i had to do some errands for her like finding bra cups and threads to match all her collection, she told me she's a bit worried as they're supposed to have their garments finished soon and shes still on toiles so i want to help her as much as possible, shes also asked me to help find some models for her crit, including me and i have recruited some of my friends to help.

Today once again we were set a task, we could choose one of two given to us and had a 2 o clock deadline and i chose the one that resulted in a 6 garment line up, once again i enjoyed doing this, i much prefer having some structure to my day instead of just wandering blindly along and i would have probably been less productive. Im pleased with my final line up, i think it works rather well and it has helped me with the direction that im going to go with my final piece. I've just been doing research to go with my natural/floral theme and have been looking at Galliano and McQueen, its really inspirational and helps remind me how much i love fashion.
